Fro Power!

I just realized I've been officially relaxer-free for 2 years.

For a minute it seemed as if my hair wasn't growing, but after taking a look back at some pics from just a couple of months ago I realized it's growing at a pretty nice pace. Kewl! My fro is getting wider and wider...yeehaw! I can't wait to see what it looks like at the two-year mark.

It's funny how you see so many posts on NP.com about negative comments some natural women have received about their hair. Um...I must be very sheltered because I get nothing but love when I go out and about. But maybe I have gotten some dirty looks and I'm just in denial about it lol.

Aint it funny how when you don't give a damn about your appearance you get the most attention? 'S like, Friday night the menfolks saw some shit that I definitely didn't. And some dude at the club was all up in my naps, admiring and whatnot. Asked me could he touch the fro.

I let him. Hell at least he asked!

I haven't been doing much to the hair, save for the twists/twistout/chunky fro cycle. I think my hair likes the lack of manipulation. Here's a pic of the fro at present

My camera is umm...incapacitated at the moment, so there will be no pictorial updates for a while. But if something spectacular happens with the naps I'll be sure to come and holla!

I think negativity towards natural hair has a little to do with the environment and culture of the people in the environment. When I was in Atlanta this summer, I felt like taking out my microbraids and walking around with a nappy fro, but when I came back to Chicago, it was like, "what am I going to do with my nappy head?" Before going to Atlanta I had never seen that many openly natural people ever. It was delightful.

"Hell at least he asked!"
I so understand. For awhile people were randomly pattin the fro and messin up my shape! Then they were shocked that my hair was soft *shaking head* Nice fro! I've yet to do a twist out but it's coming!
Peace

and what a lovely fro it is miss lisa! i don't know where folk are where they get those negative comments. sometimes i wonder if it's my vibe. i know i have this "i don't give a damn if you don't like it cuz i love it" vibe no matter my hair style. so get's love year round for the napps. but it must suck if folks are giving you a hard time about your own hair. *shrugs*

so lisa, you ever gone venture out and get ya stuff done by a pro? or someone else? you do a great job on ya own tho. just wondering. i don't kow if i could bring myself to let somebody all up in my hair space dictating the outcome like that. what bout u?

A. - Well I guess I should feel lucky to live in ATL...for once! :)

Ruth - Let me know how the twist out goes!

Feepee - Thx! I think it really is about confidence. When I step out my house I KNOW my hair is on point...not really concerned with what the masses think.

Girl I'm not too sure about that professional thing. I have a friend that's a stylist and I let her touch my natural hair ONCE back when I first chopped so she could shape it up. When she used a rattail comb to try and pick out my hair I was too through...so eff that!

I won't say never though, especially since there are some styles that I'm too inept/lazy to attempt. I just hope I don't have to go on NP with some horror story!

I love your fro! I had experienced issues with whether or not my hair responded to my hair regimen. I questioned whether or not my hair was growing, healthy, or shiny. I am so happy that it has finally taken on its own shape. I will admit to still being a product junkie though! I have reduced the addiction to a new product a month or more. Also, I have enjoyed the Elasta QP DPR-11 and Vive Smooth Intense. I see a difference in my hair after using those products for nearly a month or so. I like the title of your update, FRO POWER! If there was t-shirt with a sista on it, I would actually buy it! Just a thought, FRO POWER! peace, natina

You are beautiful :-)

I have curly/kinky hair but not nappy. But I get hassled to straighten at my job in salon/beauty suply store. Love your blog!

Natina - It's great when you find that right combo of products! I'll be glad when I cop some funds so I can get me some more natural type stuff. :)

Chica - Thx! It's crazy that even those with silkier natural hair STILL get hassled about the straight factor. People are soooo twisted. :/
