Ize Alive!

My routine has been pretty standard, so I didn't feel a huge need to come over and update. I think I might need a trim or at the very least a detangling. I haven't done that in ages but really I haven't needed to. Plus I think my hair is better off without. I believe I'll keep that to about once a month and more or less fingercomb and pull the hair to get it the way I want it.

To the reader that asked about the coconut oil I use it two ways - I dab a small amount into my hands, rub em together and run them over my fro or twistout; and I sometimes use a mixture of shea butter/coconut oil (whipped up to a creamy consistency) when I do my twists. This mix also works great on my skin! Sooooft. :)

Here's some pics of the hair this month:

Twists done on dry hair

My twists shrink up something awful when exposed to steam.

The fro..in need of a warshing.

I'll definitely get to that today.

Be back!

Your twists look great! I like the fierce fro! Thanks for the information regarding the coconut oil regimen. I am using Jarrow's coconut oil. I did notice something in using this product and that is just like you put it, a little does go a long way. Again, thanks for taking the time to respond.

Fabulous pictures of your beautiful hair. My twists try to do the vanishing act when the humidity hits. :-)
I really love the fro and am so happy I can wear them at work. I was hoping that I would not have to be 'conservative' with my hairstyles.

You should try something other than twists and twist-outs. Your hair is long enough.

Lori - Are we women with natural hair required to be more creative than those with perms? Longer hair in and of itself should not automatically prompt me to get more bajiggedy with the hair styling. Perhaps I would if I didn't believe very strongly in low manipulation. Braided styles and the like are nice, however I don't like the tension and hair pulling. I feel that my twists and twistouts morph enough during the week that I have enough variety to keep ME satisfied and I LOVE the low maintenance of it all. I really could care less if Joe Schmoe is getting bored with my hair. Feel me?

Nappy Haired Diva - You gotz the bomb job then! :D

Natina - No prob. :)

when u do your twist outs how do u get ur hair to stand up like that cuz i want what u got going on. at my church this lady when she wears a twist out her hair lays down like it looks like spiral curls or sumthin her dont stand up like urs anywho i was just wondering do u section it different of sumthin??

Paris - Mine lays down when I first unravel. But my texture is such that once a bit of humidity gets to it, it starts to lift up. I can also get it to stand up by unraveling my twists and if needed separating the chunks of hair in half. I then pull and lift to get the wild look that I like. :)

I like your perspective on the whole hair thang. I also believe that I stopped looking constantly @ other websites comparing growth and thickness of hair to my own progress. I want healthy more than anything. If length comes, so be it. We tend to set standards on any and everything, when it's hair...it just is...Ya feel me?!?!

Atlanta heat swells my hair to heights beyond recognition @ times, but that's just me.

Kudos to the window inside your nappykitchen!

Hey Lisa,

Girl, I feel like you are part of the family! I have read everything on this site at least three times and have really enjoyed your hair journey. After much thought last month I took the bold step to do the big chop. I have never been happier with my hair and am excited about being able to do a twistout one day. I thank GOD for people, like yourself, who are open and willing to share their hair stories.

All that being said, I do have one question...Is it me or did you notice all sorts of men being attracted to your hair once you went natural? I am married and to my husband's despair Black men, White men, and even Latin men approach me complimenting me on my hair. It seems like a shame that people are in such awe over something that God gave us in the first place.

Take care and God bless you
Focus not on the wind, but on the WONDERFUL!

Shawna - Congrats on the big chop! I know you're feeling goot! :D

And heck yeah I get WAY more attention now from men than I did even when I had hair down past my shoulders. Particularly WHITE ones, which I have to tell you was surprising as hell. All in all it's flattering and only confirms what we enlightened ones know - nappy hair is BEAUTIFUL. But you're right...it is a bit of a shame that they're so in awe of what comes naturally. But they really can't be blamed...after all the vast majority of us have been hiding our crowning glory for years!
