Since I've perfected my twist routine, all I've really been wearing is twists when I'm not going out anywhere and twistouts when I do. I wash my hair about 3 or 4 days and then retwist. I think this a bit easier on my ends than all the pulling and stretching I did for my puffs. This particular twistout was done on hair I'd conditioner washed the night before. I then applied Carol's Daughter Hair Milk and proceeded to put in medium sized twists. This takes me around 30 minutes I'd say.
Here's a few pics of my hair after I've unraveled the twists. It's grown some because the hair on the sides tends to hang more and I actually have to put some work into making it stand on end. I never wear it totally down. It needs to be corraled into a headband lest I look too wild. :D
And here's a couple of pics of how it looked about an hour later after I stuck in a black plastic headband and went out into the elements for a while.
I'm a lil sleepy here, but my hair isn't.

Apparently I'm happy to be having a good hair day.

It'll be interesting to see how the twistout evolves over the coming months as it grows out. In the meantime I'm keeping the hair routine very low maintenance. Of course I shall update if my hair does something remarkable.
Posted by Lisa at December 1, 2004 11:02 PMVery cute twistout! You're making me miss my loose hair :(!
Posted by: laniza at December 4, 2004 04:34 PMGyrl.. mine is looking like that in the front, and can ya believe my back is starting to grow out too.. but these damned sides will be the death of me ever getting a damn puff..
Your hair is looking quite fabulous and nappy-happy.. luv it.
Posted by: Pam - Reddy at December 6, 2004 10:07 AMDag Lisa, your hair is full and rich. It also looks healthy and full of moisture. My joint would be brittle as heck if I tried to do it in twists. Nice.
Posted by: Boogster at December 9, 2004 03:02 PMwell... so much to say/comment on - but fighting sleep. it's currently 3:49 am. stumbled across your site via sublime. love it! i've been natural (or some form of, for going on 13 years now. (omg-i can't believe it - the time). i first chopped at 19. just decided i didn't like relaxed hair anymore. it's just so un-natural - ya know? *grin* and within that time i've chopped and re-chopped numerous times. i tend to chop when i'm going through a life changes and need to do something different. my last chop was this past Jan, when i quit my job - so looking at your pics (i just finished reading all your posts, my 'do' is about the same length - only that i have it in twisted braids at the moment for convenience - i didn't think i'd be able to wash it at night and be able to style it in the morning - if it takes more then 5 mins i wouldn't do it) with all the product decription and hair results you give though, i'm inspired to try product. one reason i like the natural, is that it can be so quick and easy - wash, shake, pull on a headband and go. but i've always just used plain old vaseline *gasp*. i know. 'cept for the sometime greasyness it gets the job done (i'd only re-grease 1, maybe 2x a week, while conditioning daily. in the beginning i washed (just conditioner) my hair daily to style it, and have since always done so (wait a few more months as your length increases and you'll find that while washing your hair, while in the shower shake your head up real good - you might have to do this over a few days - that it'll start to really 'cork screw' up - well that's what mine does when it gets long.) anway, i've lost my train of thought, being now 4am. sorry for the extra long commment, thank-you for the renewed inspiration. i was just gonna re-braid my hair, but i think over x-mas i'll try some different products and test out some styling options, and hopefully come up with something that after being washed at night, i can easily style (5mins) the next morning. thank you! the twists look great by the way!
Posted by: purfiktgurl at December 12, 2004 03:59 AMLaniza - Thkee :)
Pam - Those damn sides...arghh! Hate em.
Boogster - Thk ya kindly. :D
Purfikt - Yay for the long comment...I like reading hair stories. 13 years...wow! And here I am coming up on a measly year. As for the products, I've pretty much cut down on all the extraneous stuff I was putting in my hair. My main staple is shea butter...if you try nothing else definitely get a hold of some of that. The raw, unrefined kind, that is. It keeps my hair moisturized all the day long. Can't beat that...especially in the wintertime. Happy experimentation! :D
Posted by: Lisa at December 12, 2004 01:45 PMim loving your site and your natural, i did my big chop about 2 or 3 years ago and havent thought about a relaxer since! This is how hair SHOULD be!So freeeeeeeeeeeeee
Posted by: Lala at December 16, 2004 08:19 PMYour hair is fabulous! I am celebrating my year anniversary of being completely Naptural in March. I transitioned for way too long! But I did a big chop the first time I went natural ... ohhh ... *counting* five years ago. I punked out and assimilated though after about 10 months. I'm natural to stay this go around. I absolutely love it. You should try leaving the house with your hair in a lot of small twists. You'll be surprised how wonderful they can be. Mine ususually go a week without frizzing. This is also better on the breakage than twisting and retwisting so much -- though who doesn't love a good twistout e'er once in a while. I also use CD products. Milk and Hair Butter are my favor-rights. Press on Sista ... but you know, not literally. :)
Posted by: RBG at January 6, 2005 03:41 PMWow, the napturals are in the house!! That's what is up...I'm loving it. I've been natural for almost 4 years now - never did the big chop, just transitioned with braids and the such.
I have the same problem with my hair falling down on the sides and in the front - hell everywhere. The first day of a twist-out my hair usually looks like a permies with shirley temple curls, then the next day it sticks up!! Yay!! I wonder if it has anything to do with me doing flat twists (straight back) whether than regular twists...hmmm
Anyways, loving the site. I always love to find natural sistas on the web. I will keep you posted...
